Beryl Dixon began painting at an early age, her father gave her a box professional water colours on her 9th birthday this box plus the palette, though somewhat worn and stained, is still a prized possession.
After leaving school, trained at the West of England College of Art during which time experience was gleaned from commissions for Murals, Pub signs, Lettering etc. all of which helped towards the purchase of materials and trips to London Exhibitions.
From College to industry followed by an invitation to teach part time at the West of England College of Art, this brought about a change of direction, a full time teaching post at Leicester College of Art.
Having been born in Northumberland it was inevitable that the magnificent Northumbrian countryside would be an incentive for her to return to her roots and to take up a teaching post at Newcastle and later Carlisle, College’s of Art.
After several years lapse while bringing up a family, as well as helping on her husbands farm in remote Northumberland the paint box was made redundant,
